The overnight rain was still falling a bit this morning as I was told the unsettled weather lately was due to a typhoon off the coast but not sure about that - the weather being affected by the typhoon that is not the typhoon itself. I nipped out for another pancake'y breakfast thing with the girl behind the stand already whipping one up with the toppings I like as soon as she saw me coming, only been here a few days and already having the usual.

After the rain I walked up to a English language bookshop I was told about in the search for a Vietnam Lonely Planet (slave to the guidebook I know) since I'd been unsuccessful in finding anyone coming from that direction to swap my China LP for. There seemed to be little difference between the price here and that back home even with the exchange rate difference so I ended up browsing round some nearby shops looking for a new t-shirt or two since I reckon I would be needing them once in Vietnam.

Back in the hostel I whiled away the afternoon watching Crash on a less than legit DVD which was pretty good actually but still never filled the whole day, so admitting defeat I headed back up to the book shop to put some Maos down for the Vietnam book after failing to find an alternative.

Spending some time flicking through the book I then went for a wander around the city at night looking for a bar to down a few local brews in. There seemed to be a good number of high class restaurants complete with hot waitresses lining the entrances (no pictures, sorry) and a decent amount of clubs but a lack of any sort of bar nearby.

So minus the usual alcohol I went for a kebab in the Islamic area near the city mosque (really tasty mutton kebabs here) before wandering back to the hostel to try and figure out where in Vietnam I would spend my limited time before needing to high-tail it to Thailand.
