Imaging how far I could get in Japan or even back home with 25 hours on a train I...well actually I didn't have a clue but I'm pretty sure it's further than the 1500km that this journey would take - a small hop on terms of China as a whole.
I slept pretty well though even with the lower bunk of 3 (everyone sits on the bottom bunk during the day) but looking at the height of the top bunk I was glad and realized why China is always so good at gymnastics.
The time past not to badly with at least some picturesque scenery out the window which was more than could be said for the state of the inside of train after a few hours, I'll just leave out the description of the toilet - still makes me shudder. One girl sitting opposite must have eaten an entire fields worth of sunflower seeds, hugely popular snack here, which by the time she was finally finished lay about 2 inches thick on the ground around her feet to add to the couple of tons more from the other seed nibblers.
Stopping at a few stations along the way long enough to step off and check what munchies were available from the platform vendors I quickly lost my appetite after waiting for a group to re-board all of them crunching on skewers of chicken feet - never been so glad of instant noodles before.
