Entry 7 of 10 | show all | print this entry

Drove for 3 hours from Lidia's house to Banoreggio. Lidia cooked a very nice dinner for us and her two friends, Veronika and Leonardo. Once again we didn't start to eat until after 9 PM ! Dinner finsihed close to midnight with several courses. We spent some time with Lidia this morning and headed out. A1 east toFirenze and then south towards Orvieto. Orvieto is spread out across a plateau that must be a mile long at least. Not far is the town of Banoreggio and then a short drive to Civita di Banorregio, a 2000 yr old town on the pinacle of a hill several hundred meters high. It is an amaaing place with a population of 2 natives and the rest owners from elsewhere. The most astounding views, ancient wells, ancient squares. We ate at the same place Lidia and I had lunch 5.5 yrs ago when we came without Laura who had gone home early because of the heat and length of my planned trip. She finally got to see this amazing place. I introduced myself again to Franco Sala who owns the best restaurant in town, and he brought out some wine and pasta and ast down with us. We videoed him with me narrating and chatted about the upcoming visit of the Pope to his restaurant in Sept. He was moderately excited about that, but is very used to famous people coming there to eat and see the town. I am just 8 months older than he is. He is a very nice man and his pasta was the best we have had so far on this trip. We bid him adieu and I promised to return with all my friends, so everyone get ready. Our hotel is very charming, and we will probably try to work up an appetite and eat in town, and then off to Rome tomorrow on a 12:09 train. We will try to do some sightseeing and videoing of the Roman Ruins.

Love

Laura and Alan
