We left Bangkok after seeing a few new sights and a few old ones again, we took the night train up to Chiang Mai on my reccommendation after the good experience last time. This time we met a large group of Austrians who were really good fun, one of them said he didn't like English people but we seemed different, not sure why though. On this occasion the train had laid on some new entertainment in the form of an extremely camp young thai man who danced all night and had us all in stiches. After a surprisingly good nights sleep we arrived in Chiang Mai about 10am, found a guest house after a couple of hours walking around and Mary managed to book herself on a 3 day trek. We spent the night and next day looking around, and the following night was the Sunday market, which Mary had to go and spend some time seeing. I, on the other hand, didn't want to shop so went to a nearby bar and watched the football, unfortunately Man U won again but you can't have everything.

The next day we hired some push bikes and explored the town and nearby areas, the bikes only cost 30 baht per day (less than 50p) and were decent enough. I booked a place on a 1 day mountain bike ride down the largest mountain near the town.

On Tuesday Mary left for her trek and I did some more exploring and met up with a bloke from Nottingham I met in Koh Phangan, us and a couple of his friends went out for some drinks and watched a free Thai boxing event, which was pretty rubbish to be honest, but free so couldn't complain. The next day I was supposed to meet them again but the bar we were supposed to meet at was shut so we missed each other (although I expect he didn't turn up anyway, probably still in bed, these Nottingham types can't keep pace sometimes). I spent the day on the bike again but by this time I'd seen all I could without hiring a moped or similar. Although my mountain bike expedition was the following day so I didn't bother going too far.

The mountain bike expedition was really good fun, the guides drove us to the top of the mountain and we rode down, although there was still quite a bit of pedalling to be done. The scenery was amazing and all the people I met were nice, and we arrived back around the same time Mary got back from her trek. We had changed guest houses to a nice cheap one, so I went and met her there and we had our last night in Chiang Mai.
