The next couple of days we took in some sights and did some lazing by the pool, fund a great restaurant overlooking the river on our second night. Virtually no westerners (or Farang) but didn't feel at all uncomfortable, they had lobsters and crabs and things I have never seen in tanks ready for cooking, but I stuck with a Thai Green curry, which I forgot to ask for mild, so sweated my way through it
The following night we went to Chinatown for the last day of the Chinese new year festival, which was really impressive. Lots of lights and stalls and happy people, and a really nice atmosphere in general. We saw a crowd of people obviously waiting for something important, so we joined the throng and waited. After half an hour and nearly passing out from the heat a group of policemen walked past and the crowd disbanded. Apparently the King's brother was in the group of policemen but we had no idea.
We also took a day trip to Kanchanaburi (The bride over the river Kwai) which included a museum, visit to the bride, a ride on the death train (not that scary) and a visit to a waterfall. The trip was not particularly good, but it was good to visit the places anyway, and the death train was fun, although the waterfall was more of a trickle and a bit of a disappointment.
I also had a moment of stupidity when that morning, I accidentally deleted all my pictures from my camera so far, so only got these ones and a few more from the excursion. I'll spend a few hours banging my head against a wall as penance.
We're taking the night train to Chiang Mai tonight, so more updates to follow in a few days.
