We can no longer afford to be in the Savoy but we still need to be in Bandung so we are moving to a hostel across town. It's not cheap but in comparison to here it's pence. You often hear conflicting opinions about cities/countrys but with Jakarta all we have heard is that it's a pile of shit, we are only going because we need to fly from there and because, well it's a capital we can't not do it.

We got a taxi to the new hostel. It's in a sort of retail park, someone has grand plans for this place, it's clearly not got going yet though. The hostel is clean and relatively new, bunkbeds again though. The reason we considered Bandung in the first place was because there is a crater nearby that is supposed to be good, you can buy an egg thats been cooked on the heat apparently. It's also where the Canadian guy stood in suphur I believe. Anyway, the plan was to visit here but after reading instructions we decided we couldn't be bothered to sit in a minivan for 2 hours, we are both feeling pretty shakey still as well. Instead we decided to visit jeans street which is a popular shopping area with huge pop culture statues lining the streets. Taxis are too expensive so after we walked to the train station and bought our Jakarta tickets for tomorrow we got directed to jump in an angkot. These are basically little minivans that people just jump in as they move, theres no dedicated bus service here. They cram about 15 people into these things, it costs about 20p.

We arrived one street over. Jean street itself is a bit rubbish. The statues are terrible for the most part, big terminators and wolverines and shit, they serve no purpose other than to intrigue morons like us to go to the street. The shops sell jeans (obviously) and t-shirts but all sell roughly the same thing. The street was a bit turd but there was a really smart new shopping mall just off the street so we spent the next hour or so wandering it. I had a rubbish beef sandwich from some place called rafles and I also bought a game card so I could play in the arcade they had. Most of the game were a bit shit though so it was a slight waste of money, I just wanted to whack a mole. Theres a joke in there somewhere.

We had read about a cinema back at the retail park from Christmas eve so we figured theres not much else to do so maybe go and see whats on. It took two vans to get there this time. Charlotte stopped for food and then I was delighted to see the new Sherlock Holmes was on in 30min, perfect. It cost about 1.40 for a ticket. We had heard great things about Bangkok cinemas so I was intrigued. It was basically just like the cinemas at home, almost identical in fact. They did have adverts though for other options, like a cinema with beds and one in which it was also a restaurant. The video quality was fucking turd on the screen though, I joked that when the film started it would be so shit it would have people getting up to go to the toilet on screen. This idea amused us for quite some time. The film starts good but then turns shit, it has the same soundtrack as the original though so it gets a 10/10.

Got another angkot back to the station after standing in the road for ages. Dropped our stuff off at the hostel and then walked in the direction of the big sign for food market. As part of this complex about 5min walk from the hostel there is a new development of upmarket hawker stalls in a really nice wooden decked/Christmas decorated setting. This is the only part of this development that seems to have taken off thus far as it's rammed. I had terrible heartburn but stupidly still ordered extra hot Portugese chicken with green beans. It was spicy and I'm sure it would have been enjoyable had I not felt I was going to die of heartburn the entire time.

Went back to the hotel, found a stream of United that worked for a bit then cut out for the majority of the first half. Second half was a bit better. Charlotte researched Vietnam, some of it sounds absolutely class, can't wait. I went to bed around 1, we don't have to leave till 11.
