Entry 73 of 158 | show all | print this entry

We spent Friday in the Outback Isa centre. In it there are two museums and an underground mine tour. We spent the morning in the fossil museum and then did the 3 hour underground mine trip.We had to dress in boiler suits with hard hats, accumulators attached to miners lamps, wellington boots etc... Chris looked the best I have seen her in years on the professional photograph taken specially for the occasion.

The tour was worth every penny of the a$45 pp. Everyone had the opportunity to handle the huge drills that make 8 foot holes in the rock where the charges are placed. Lots of different types of mining machinery were demonstrated and most of the time we wore industrial ear protection because the noise was deafening. I was lucky enough to be the one chosen to set off an underground explosion, the first time in my life that I've had a bang underground.

We spent the evening in the RSL club, again a courtesy bus ride away. The small Toyota Hiace Commuter vehicle was full of the friendliest people you will ever meet and so was the club.A meal for 2 and a couple of jugs of VB set us back $51 dollars. We also spent $10 on raffles and managed to win a $30 chicken voucher so we had a great night for $31 (less than 14 pounds)
