A quick 250k has brought us to Port Hedland, the largest industrial port in Western Australia. Over one third of the worlds iron ore is exported from this one place, together with a huge amount of industrial salt. The bulk carriers in the harbour are huge and the freight trains among the longest in the world. The biggest to date consisted of 682 freight cars and 8 locomotives. Luckilly we didn't have to wait at the level crossing for that one to pass.
When we checked into the caravan park we were told the exact times that the large ships and trains could be viewed. There were several of each every day and with the timing like clockwork. We would have loved to have seen them but as we were only here for one night, the lure of Victoria Bitter was too much so we got pissed instead.
One last thing. Today is Pigeon day. Coo Coo Coo bloody Coo.
PS. A lot of the houseflys here are bright green. What next?
