We have now been in Sydney for 3 days and have a further 3 to go before picking up our vehicle.
We are staying at the Strand Hotel on William St. a great location in the city centre. We have a clean en-suite room for 60 dollars a night, good value for a city centre.
We have been to the Australian museum which we found to be very good although we had to pay 10 dollars each entrance fee. In itself it was not much money but after we left I found a 20% off voucher in my pocket. Ouch.
We spent a very pleasant day on the Rocks. No, that doesn't mean that we stayed sober for 24 hours. The Rocks is an area of Sydney near the start of the Harbour Bridge with pubs, a market, great views and the Sydney Observatory in which we spent an hour.
We walked over the bridge for nothing while a load of clowns paid 60 dollars to climb it and were only a few metres higher than we were. The views were spectacular and by now we have photos of the opera house and the bridge from every conceivable angle.
Today, 5th, we spent the morning in the National Art Gallery of New South Wales, free of charge of course, and had a great couple of hours. Then we walked through Sydneys botanic gardens and were amazed not only by the flowers, trees, shrubs etc. but also by the thousands of large fruit bats, lots of which were flying found in the early afternoon sunshine.
A walk along the lower gardens showed yet another view of the bridge and opera house where the opera house looked like it was under the bridge.
We seem to eat at different places all the time but we have found a pub that we like called the Empire Hotel at Kings Cross. The view of humanity (and I use the term loosely) from the front bar gives us lots to see both day and night. We have met an assortment of locals and they have all been very friendly towards us, even the drug dealers.
