Arrived on 9th at dusk. Huge city, traffic jams, polluted atmosphere, abnoxious smells, everyone smokes in restaraunts, no-one ever goes to sleep - there must be bad points as well but we've not found them yet.
Checked in at the Ibis Tamarin hotel in the city centre, 25 pounds per night including breakfast. A very good western standard hotel. Rooms a little small but excellently appointed - we were upgraded to a new room.
We really enjoyed our first evening in the hotel bar. There was a promotion of draught beer of 2 for 1 so we had a jug each (2 litres per jug). Unfortunately, the beer was probably the most expensive in the world because the promotional rate still cost us almost 18 pounds. A snip. The food was crap for the money so we will not eat here again
10th July was a better food and drink day. Breakfast was surprisingly good. The morning was taken up by a visit to the national monument which was a 20 minute walk from the hotel
and we had a great meal at a reasonable price at a restaraunt across the road called the Sabanoza which actaully looked like a tarts boudour. The beer was 23000 for a large bottle (1pound 30p) so I breathed an alcoholic sigh of relief. We had dinner at the same restaraunt and left as the tarts started to arrive.
11th July A big day today. We fly to Sydney at 20.55pm and arrive at 6.30am tomorrow.
