The island is so beautiful and wet and wet and wet
On 24th we stayed in Ruteng, (get your maps out) and visited traditional villaged along the way.
On 25th we stayed at Bajawa and we ate in a small restaurant called Ditos. It had Karaoke so we have now sung in Indonesia
The 26th should have taken us to Moni by mid afternoon but after we started out we were turned back at a place where a big landslide had completely covered the main road. I use the term main road loosely. There is only one road from west to east Flores and it consists of a narrow two way procession of winding good road followed by winding bad road followed by winding crap road followed by winding almost impassable waterlogged road, in any and all orders.
We returned to Bajawa (or raintown) and spent 5 hours waiting for the raod to re-open and eventually arrived at the village of moni near maumere at about 7.30pm
The main highlight of our tour was about to come. A trip to Kalimutu and its 3 different coloured crater lakes. A wonder of S Asia.
We left our hotel at 4am in order to climb to the crater rim.Sunrise was at 6am and shortly after that, we would see the amazing lakes. The sun must have been there but we couldn't see it for rain and cloud. We were assured that the lakes were there but the rain and cloud obscured them as well. We did, however take our pictures by the national park sign to prove we had been there.
I suggested we cheat by buying a postcard of the lakes and taking a photograph of that but Chris wouldn't let me.
