Stayed at the Gardenia Hotel last night. We arrived after dark and it was incredible to wake up to the amazing view of Labuan Bajo harbour from our hotel patio.
An early start and a small two and a half hour boat trip took us to Rinca Island, sister island to Komodo. Ten of us left the harbour at 7am, us and another 8 people from the "cruise Ship'. As we left the harbour our captain was looking to our starboard and a fishing boat cut across our bows from the port side. A poor woman dressed in muslim costume stood on the bow gesticulating loudly and waving at us. All to no avail. They hit us on the port side and stove in their bows and took some planking from our boat. Worst of all, the woman went straight into the sea - what a splash. By then, our captain was aware of the situation and looked to his left in order to see what was happening. Unfortunately, he should have been looking to his right because 10 seconds later, we hit a Katamaran and lost more planks from our starboard side. Luckily no-one was hurt but from then on, we all kept a wary eye on the captain.
We found out that Rinca was the place that all the dragons from Komodo were holidaying. We saw big ones, small ones, medium sized ones etc... When we reach a point where we can download pictures we will start an album for you to see. More thumbnails ...
