The first day I flew out on a redeye flight and got here in the morning, totally exhausted. The past 3 days, we've been doing lots of activities to prepare us for staying with our host family, how to deal with homesickness, poverty, uncomfortable situations, talking about America, negative perceptions, Thai customs, and so forth. My group leader is this tiny girl from Thailand who was hosted in Ohio a few years ago. She showed us some Thai writing, which is just absolutely ridiculous. It looks like scribbles. So I'm a bit intimidated about learning that. Otherwise, it's been a blast and I've just been too busy getting to know people to really be sad at all. Sorry this isn't very detailed. Lets see so last night we did skits on the three "Golden Rules of AFS" which is no drugs, driving, or hitchhiking. So my group did a skit on the drugs rule so I played the stoner host sister trying to get the exchange student to do drugs, so that was pretty funny.
Everyone here is great. When I met all these students like me in Houston, we were all competing for a spot on the program. Now that were all in and about to depart on the adventure of a lifetime, we can all finally be friends. Even though were all going our seperate ways soon, leaving our families and coming here has bonded us all in a way that I can't really explain. But it's pretty cool. I'll write more soon, here's a couple pictures I took from when we drove around D.C. in the blistering heat and humidity and went to the Islamic Art Gallery.
