This was the view from the front garden of the pousada, looking over towards the main port on the island.
Today we decided to walk to another beach called Les Grandes Palmas, presumably named after some rather large palm trees. Sounded promising...
The walk to the beach was allegedly an hour, but the signs marking the path were pretty non-existent so we managed to walk 30 minutes PAST the turn-off, then had to walk back, adding a nice hour to our journey time!
Still, we couldn't really complain with such perfect conditions!
Once on the right path we followed the trail along the beach again and then headed up over some pretty steep mountains, which was a bit of a nightmare!
This path was well worn, so we knew it would be a bit busier than the last two beaches we've visited here...
...it was tempting to stop at one of the nice beaches we passed en route, but we kept pushing on...
...this was the last beach we saw before cutting inland and climbing up and over the mountains.
When we got to the top of the hill we had a really nice view over the town...
...and one of the bays below us, which really reminded us of the island of Hvar in Croatia.
It was quite a tough walk in flip-flops, so we were over the moon when we arrived at Les Grandes Palmas and very nice it was too.
Once again we crashed out for most of the time, with the odd foray into the water, which had a very strong current and really pulled you in.
We were a bit surprised to have this beach all to ourselves again, but no complaints!
We chilled out for the next four hours or so (I know, tough life!) and just tried to enjoy the moment, knowing that we'd be on a plane going back to London soon!
This was the view from lying back on my beach towel, not bad eh?!
When we got a bit bored of that beach we decided to walk another 30 minutes to the next beach along, from where we could get a boat back to the main town.
Again we cut inland, through the forest...
...before coming out onto another lovely beach.
We sat in the cafe and had a couple of guarana drinks while we waited for the boat to leave.
The ride back was very picturesque again with the sun falling below the horizon.
When we got back we relaxed in the room and then went out for dinner.
Neither of us were very hungry so we went back to the pancake place, which Katie left after the main course because she was getting bitten to death by mosquitos or ants and had forgotten to put any spray on before we left the room.
This was my favourite desert of acai berries topped with bananas and strawberry sauce!
Tomorrow is our last full day on the island before we head back to Rio, so we'll probably go back to our favourite beach of Lopez Mendes, fingers crossed for one last day of glorious sunshine!
Lots of love,
Al & Katie xx
