On my various walks to & fro the beach and the pousada (hotel) yesterday I'd somehow managed to get sunburnt in the middle of my back, so I decided to stay out of the sun today.
So after another really good breakfast we split up, with Katie going back to the 3rd beach and me chilling out on our balcony with the sea in front of me, the swaying palms around me and a good book in my hands.
And that was pretty much it.
Katie came back to get me for some lunch (which was surprisingly good) on 2nd beach, from one of the food huts right by the water.
I ordered a 'pastel' (savoury pastry) and a burger, which are usually tiny over here, but these ended up being massive! I also think I'm getting a bit addicted to the Guarana soft drink.
While enjoying our lunch I stayed under the parasol while Katie lapped up the sun and it was a great spot to sit and watch the hours tick by.
Eventually when the sun started to disappear behind the palm trees we walked back to our room and then headed out for dinner.
Today was the first day that we hadn't bumped into either Marcus or Alex, our friendly locals, but all that changed when we took our seats in another nice restaurant on the 2nd beach.
We were looking at the menu outside, which looked really good... the only thing bothering me was the music.
There was a dude playing guitar and he was absolutely bloody AWFUL; it sounded like he was playing it on his head whilst underwater or something.
Still, the menu looked good so I swallowed my musical snobbery and agreed to take a seat.
We then saw that this terrible musician was in fact.... our friend Marcus! Thankfully his English and local knowledge was better than his guitar playing.
The food was great, better value than other places here and the caipirinhas were also very good.
Marcus joined us for a while before being called up again because the guy who played after him was even worse (hard to believe, trust me), so he went back up to absolutely crucify Stairway To Heaven while we finished off and waved goodbye.
It was great to have a chill day today without really doing anything, we've had surprisingly few days like that in our 7.5 months so far, it's pretty much been constant travelling.
Tomorrow we're due to leave the island and head further south down the coast, hopefully to some more really nice beaches on the way down to Rio.
Lots of love,
Al & Katie xx
