I woke up this morning with a HORENDOUS hangover, but I guess it's the price you pay for a good night out. I got in wasted and forgot to drink any water before going to sleep, so I'm still feeling the effects 7 hours later!

So it was a bit of a role reversal from yesterday, with Katie feeling much better and me feeling much worse and wanting to stay in bed!

She kept telling me that my illness was self-induced, so I got no sympathy or pampering whatsoever. Fair enough really.

Katie went downstairs to do some internetting, while I tried to recover. I eventually got up at noon, still feeling like death, but managed to make it down to the internet room.

Pretty soon Katie wanted to get moving to see a bit of the city after her day in exile yesterday, so we (I) struggled out into the bright sunshine.

Melbourne has a free vintage tram service that does a circle route around the city centre, so we jumped on one to get down to the riverside.

After that we decided that as it was a nice day we would take a normal tram down to St Kilda, which is about 15 minutes away from central Melbourne.

When we arrived it was really busy (being a Sunday) but fun. St Kilda is cheaper and younger than Melbourne, it feels like a college town, and has the added advantage of a beach!

St Kilda reminded Katie of Freemantle in Western Australia, but I don't think it's as pretty.

St Kilda

When we got to the beach it was a bit disappointing, it had loads of rubbish on it and the sand was quite muddy.

However, being a beach it was full of scantily clad folks sucking up the sun, so we walked along the waterline, I mean it would be rude not to, right?

We then turned inland and I grabbed something to eat while Katie thought it was safer to avoid eating anything, just in case.

Being hungover I had a real thirst, and managed to drink about 4 pints of soft drinks over the next 2 hours, which I thought was quite impressive?

As we walked down one of the side streets, Katie spotted my favourite bottle shop so far, which had over three HUNDRED types of beer from all around the world! Mmmmm, beeeer....

300 beers

After a good wander around St Kilda's streets it had clouded over, so we took the tram back to Melbourne.

After disembarking we strolled through the central shopping area and headed back to the hostel.

Neither of us were really in the mood for shopping or walking, so we got back to the room and crashed out, which was lovely.

Tonight we'll walk into the centre and go looking for some of the nice 'laneways' which are crammed full of good places to eat & drink, and we might pop into Chinatown for a bite to eat.

I'm also hoping to weave some photos into previous journal entries while we're here, so with a bit of luck you'll be able to go back and see them again with photos soon.

Liverpool play at 4pm UK time today (3am Melbourne time!) so I'll have to miss that unfortunately, but the boys seem to be doing very well when I don't watch them, so I'm not too gutted...

Hope all is well in your world, lots of love,

Al & Katie xx
