We had the most amazing flight we've had on this trip. It was the emptiest plane we have ever been on. If the plane was a third full it was a lot so as we took off Al moved to one row of 4 seats and I moved to the row behind him and after our dinner we spread ourselves out and both had a good nights sleep.

We landed in Cairns at 04h40 in the morning and as there were so few people we zipped through passport control really quickly and as we were walking through customs in true Aussie style they decided to do a random search and guess who they chose!!!! What a pain!!! They X-rayed all of our bags then asked to look in 2 of them and of course found nothing of interest so all they actually achieved was to piss Al off as they were poking through his bag with no gloves on!! His face was a picture and of course I got the giggles, which didn't help!! As the guy picked something up Al would take it out of his hand and put it down, by now I am in hysterics which makes the lady ask to look in my hand luggage and of course all she could find was my change of clothes from the plane!! It was like watching border control on TV, but this was reality TV.

After that little episode we sat at the coffee shop at Cairns airport which is almost like a one horse town airport with nothing to look at, while we waited for Jucy to open to be able to fetch our van that Bron had booked for us. Eventually it was opening time and we caught a taxi into town and collected our bright green and purple van that is actually a camper van. WELL one look at this thing and as you all very well know what a bad camper I am, we will NOT be camping. We will be staying at hotels and Inns and using the van as transport. Bron had warned us and she was very worried that we wouldnt be happy but actually its good fun and we are very happy but I am pleased with the holiday resort that we are booked in for the next 4 nights.

We arrived in Port Douglas after a very pretty drive an hour up the coast and it looks like a lovely town. There is a long beach that is called 4-mile beach and it's in a lovely bay. Our resort is very well situated with town on the one side and the Marina on the other side. We went into town to get provisions and a local sim card. Our number is +61 427193371 if anyone feels like chatting to us.

Deb found some new cozzies as we were walking through this quaint little town and also spotted some dress shops she wants to go back to much to Al's disgust!

We bought lamb chops, potatoes and tomatoes and went home to do a load of washing and went down to the gas barbeques downstairs to braai our chops. It is soooo great to finally have some normal food for dinner. Barbs, Al says THIS is the best meal he has had for ages! HaHaHa!

Tomorrow we will explore the area and keep you updated.

What no pics of the airport searching party!!!! looked and looked but disapointed. Actually such a nightmare when these officious little people do searches and it always get worse when they can't find anything - god forbid they acknowledge their error.

Hope you having a lovely rest - and just wait Al am practising my cuisine for your BEST ever meal. lots of love
