At the beginning of the week we all decided to sign up for some surfing lessons. I had originally decided to learn salsa but looking at the beach and the waves I decided that surfing would be fab, and salsa later!!

So, after the first spainsh lesson we all head downstairs to the surf shop and meet Isidro our instructor. He´s supposed to be quite good, number 2 in Ecuador I think! Anyway he asks everyone if they´ve surfed before, and the guys (Al, Phil, Alex and Johan...whos joined us) all say yes. He asks how much and Al explains he´s done a bit. Isidro then makes it clear that we will all be starting from scratch....excellent I think as it wont be just me jumping around on the sand like an idiot!! So...after much jumping around on the sand we´re allowed in the sea. By the end of the lesson everyone is easily standing up and catching waves on their owm, except me who´s still struggling to stay on the board even lying down!! It seems that my surfing is as good as my Spanish....but everyone else is doing really well.

The next few lessons sees Isidro make us do a ridiculous warm up before we get in the sea, I don´t think this has anything to do with safety but more to do with him having a really good laugh at the white stupid English folk running up and down the beach. It also gives him more time to check out the Chica Chicas.

I injure my ankle and so miss Thursday´s lesson, which is probably just as well as the total amount of time I have stood up on a surfboard by this time is about 2 seconds. The guys all get ready though and we head to the beach. The waves have got progressively bigger as the week has gone on and by Thursday they´re pretty big! Isidro is giving the guys a pep talk before they head in, when he says ´íf you go in to your waist you´ll die, if you go in up to your thigh you´ll maybe die´..... brilliant!!!! Anyway they all got out alive although pretty tired.

By our last day the waves are enormous!!! Isidro told us to come to our surfing lesson later so the waves would be better, so at 530 pm we head down to the beach. I am seriously wondering what the hell I´m thinking of -  trying not only to get in the water but also to stand up on a board!! Oh well I think......lets give it a go!! And amazing!!!! Had an absolutely amazing time. Stood up loads...all by myself. The first time everyone cheered so much I fell off though...classic!!! We all had fun, apart from Alex (girl) who unfortunately had been poorly so had to give it a miss. Surfing was left on a high and we got out as the sun was setting (or it would have been if we could see it behind all the clouds).

We have a BBQ at the Cabanas that night organised by Brian (who´s the admin support for the organisation) who sounds like he´s actually from the film ´Waynes Wolrd´ Awsome Dude!! They play party games which us girls manage to avioid but the boys get stuck in to. They then head off to town to try to replicate the previous friday, but without the girls´ great moves they were just two saddos with no home to go to and had to prop up the bar!!

Saturday sees more hungover action from the guys and us preparing to move on to Baños up in the mountains. We decide to move to a cheaper hostal for the night as it will be an early start, this backfires when an all night marriage ceremony takes place outside our bedroom window and we manage about an hours sleep......ah well, plenty of time to sleep on the 8 hour bus ride.....??
