Whirlwind couple of days! Left our quaint and beautiful hotel in Paihia, and got on the road back to Auckland for a stop over with Vini and Shaun on our way to Rotorua. I’m getting quite good at correct pronounciation of Maori words. All the town names are messed up names. Whangaparoa, Whangarei, Papatoetoe, Whakapapa.... (BTW, when "WHA" is written, it’s actually pronounced "FA"... Figure that last one out for yourself. Giggleworthy). So the game is that when we pass a sign, I say what I think it is, and then Shenan corrects me. That or Shenan says it, and I parrot him. The Maori language is very interesting, I’m also learning lots of little sayings that I forget about a half an hour after learning them.
OH AND TRAFFIC CONES
Before we left Paihia, we went up to Haruru Falls, where they don’t have any fences or anything keeping us from them like they do in Canada... So we were able to climb around them and have some fun, and take some gorgeous photos. I did not, however, go down them in a pickle barrel. Didn’t have one. HA! I like the idea that down here, they don’t need Idiot Patrol fences and stuff. If you fall off and do something stupid... well I guess that’s your lesson. LOL I love it! Probably should have brought my helmet on my trip.
So on our way to Auckland, we stopped Waipa where I got my first mince pie... Not sure what the hype is about, but then again Shenan informed me that they were kinda shitty pies anyways. Which is appropriate, coinsidering what the mince on the inside of it look like. But I’ve been informed that Taranaki Anderson pies are the shizzel bomb-bizzel. I’ll be the judge of that. Stay tuned. We then took a short detour to Mangawhai where we stopped at the most beautiful surf beach
Then we had a night of drinks, laughs, and more drinks at Vini’s, TOO MANY JAGERBOMBS!!! Yeesh! So this morning’s hangover was in full swing when we awoke. Wanting to do our hangovers up in style, we headed to scope out some Dim Sum to stuff in our hungover wordholes. They call it Yum Cha. I don’t care what they call it, I call it Belly Full Of Happytime. We then drove to the mall so that Chopz could buy some better fitting boardshorts so that he wasn’t flashing his bare Maori ass to the world anymore, and I had a nap in the car. Bout 40 minutes worth, I was told! LOL! Then we went to Waiwera to the mineral pools. OH MY GOD. Thermal Spa resort called Waiwera Infinity, where the pools are natural mineral water, sourced from a geothermal aquifer, 1400m below the spa. Hhhhhoooooo boy. How relaxing. I couldn’t even count how many pools there were. Ranging from regular heat pools, waterslides, kid pools, then hot pools to 42 degrees, to a small HOT HOT one that sat at 48 degrees
Then dinner at Woody’s Pub across the street from the spa, where I had my first burger... NZ style. It was the size of the Calgary Tower. Let me break this down for you.

MY FOOD TRAP ISN’T NEAR BIG ENOUGH TO FIT THAT KIND OF MONSTROSITY IN IT. It was a challenge. You know when they put a toothpick in a clubhouse sandwich to keep it from falling all over the place? When they use two chopsticks to keep this mother trucker together, they mean effin business. Wow. Oh, and yes. I said fried egg. They apparantly put a fried egg on EVERYTHING. And I’m gonna tell you.... it wasn’t bad! In fact, it was quite delicious. And a Tui beer to wash it down with. So I think it’s a good night to go to sleep early, because we’ve got a big day ahead of us tomorrow, as we head to Rotorua. I apparently will be in need of a pig. I’ll search for one on the way. LOL.
