Nothing much today, just a day of travel. I left Zurich around 6 am because I wanted to have a little bit of time in Milan. The train ride from Zurich was one I could take over and over. The route would weave in-between giant blue lakes only to climb a hill and reveal more. Snow covered peaks decorated the background of what seemed to be one postcard scene after another. Switzerland truly is a beautiful country.

It was about a four-hour ride, which worked out well for me. I was able to walk around Milan for a couple hours, have lunch, and then take my next train to Venice. Milan was the perfect gateway city for me. A picturesque view of Italy. Winding narrow streets covered with vendors selling fresh fruit and vegetables of all kinds. I think I counted just as many fresh flower stands as I did people which makes the streets shine in every color. For lunch, I had to do it, what else than spaghetti and meatballs. Excellent.

From Milan to Venice the countryside was covered in huge wine and olive farms. Up every hillside and covering every valley. When I arrived in Venice I quickly found out that I wouldn’t be staying on the island itself, rather a view minutes away. The prices for a 6-person dorm hostel on the island reached $100 so it wasn’t a difficult choice. I only wish my connection to the mafia was a bit stronger so I could get a decent room. Since everyone in Italy is either in, or used to be in the mafia it shouldn’t be hard to start a connection. I think that will be my goal for tomorrow. What harm could possibly come of doing them one little favor?
