Today marks our exodus from Amsterdam and I'll have to say I was really suprised by this trip. I mean everyone talks about the three H's (you'll have to figure that one out), but the city is so much more that that. Dionne and I stayed a little outside of the city center for our first two days and although our hotel was awful (toilet didn't work the entire time!), we did love the coffe shop/bar/cafe that was on the corner. Our bartender friend (no idea what his name was) was so warm..on the second day that we walked in, he gave us a familiar "Norm!!" greeting. It was great. They played the best funky/soul music in there--Curtis Mayfield, Jamiroquai, Prince. We moved closer to one of the city centers on our 3rd day, Hotel Amsterdam Eureka, which was really nice. It felt like home. We could have bk and drinks and check our e-mail in the large living room.

On Sat night we went to the Paradiso club which was off the hook!! There were 3 DJ's group spinning all hip hop. I mean they played stuff I hadn't even heard before. We literally danced all night. We bumped into some other Americans there...one guy from Morehouse!! Fat Joe will be performing there tonight...we almost stayed to represent the Bronx :) .

As you will see in the video, I challenged a little kid from Virginia to a popping contest. The Amsterdam air got to me, hahahaa!

We did go to the Van Gough and Anne Frank musuems as well which were both interesting. I couldn't belive that we were acutally in the attic where Anne Frank, her family, and family friends hid for 2 years. It was erie.

Sorry guys, we tried to get pics of the red light district (which supposedly is strictly prohibited) but they didn't come out. It's really crazy down there though -- it's like walking through a zoo. The women are really in the windows on display under a red light. Some of them are text messaging or filing thier nails, not at all intersted in what's going on, while others are posing intently.

The most impressive part of the city, however, is the architecture. Amsterdam is beautiful! It's a great place to come and chill -- go for a bike or canal ride.

Dionne met many of her kindred here (hehe)...our hotel staff and one of the taxi drivers kept making reference to her and life in Africa. I don't know...maybe it's the braids.

Anyway, it's rainy and chilly today...time to move on.

Brooklyn truly isn't the same without you (although I am doing my best to hold it down:).
Miss you both!!!

wow, i am so envious of your travels. why can't life consist of leisure trips and random interactions with others like guys who own jerk restaurants and others who challenge you to a robot match. Man, the life! You look like you're having a ball, keep up the good work! Please keep sending the videos and pics.
