We set out in the morning (after eating another breakfast of bread) and hit the city to see more. We took a waterbus to the island of Murano, where they have glass-blowing exhibitions and many shops and kiosks where they hawk anything to do with glass (for about twice the price of the souvenier shops in the main city). Seeing the glass factory was kinda cool, but the rest was not too impressive. Off the beaten path, we saw more of the same lovely canals and venetian life.
From there we went to Burano, a small island where fisherman live, and have painted their houses bright colors, to help them find their way home (so we are told). It was also very nice, but also very touristy. We returned to Venice and did some shopping, which seems to be the primary purpose of Venice these days
We were all pretty tired on the train back to the hotel, and Laura and the boys realized they had eaten nothing but bread since we left Trogir, partially due to circumstances, but most because that seems to be all there is in Venice, unless you want to have a $25 meal in a fancy place. We had a bit of a meltdown over this, and elected to hit McDonalds for dinner. OK, thatīs twice, but what the heck. Like Robb says, sometime a Royale with cheese is exactly what you need. Anyway, it didnt really taste the same, but it was close enough.
We are looking forward to getting out of Italy and moving on to new places.
