We arrived in Verona, still being pelted with a morning sprinkle of rain, and it took us a while to park. Acutally, it took us a while to find an English speaking person who could help us figure out the "Verona Park" system. We're still not sure how it works. In fact we played the role of "stupid american tourist" alot today. One guy threw us out of his restaurant for ordering two pizzas to share between the four of us (the pizza thing really is wearing out fast). And regarding the one way streets in Verona, it really would be nice if they up some signs indicating which way is the intended direction.... Or maybe if they put them where I was looking.
Anyway, despite our fumblings we thought Verona was a nice city. Very picturesque, with a rich history - the foremost attraction being an early roman colleseum, where gladiators took on wild animals and the roman people congregated to look upon them and watch them being eaten. Of course, the palaces and churches are beautiful as well, but we've seen alot of that sort of thing lately.
On the way home, we opted for the scenic route, through wine country. The scenery was amazing. Along the way, we stopped at a winery and did some tasting. We bought a few to bring home, so be sure to give a us a call in a couple of weeks....
For dinner, we decided that lighter would be better. We hit a grocery store and bought some fixins and enjoyed sandwiches in our room. This isn't meant as a complaint, but we all really do miss Laura's home cooked meals.
Tomorrow we'll visit more areas around Venice, and probably return to the city once more. And on Sunday, we'll make our way back to Munich.
