Heidi and I flew from Brisbane to Cairns for our Easter Break, also known as "study week". The fly up to north Queenland took about 3 hours and we stayed at the Koala Beach Resort which was the best hostel I've stayed at thus far! Great friendly service and they had a pool!
Day 1 We spent the day at Cap Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest. We also got a chance to swim in the Mossman River Gourge on our 2 hour, van ride still more north into the bush. We took a trip on the Daintree River and saw Crocs in their natural habitat. Day 2 Our day started early on the Osprey V heading out to the Great Barrier Reef! We got a chance to snorkel and dive at two locations on the reef. After a quick run down of how to dive I went down alone with the dive instructor because the other 3 girls in my group where unable to make it down. I went down again at Hastings Reef and swam alone that time. It was so cool touching the coral (only when the instructor pointed out that we could). It was really hard to try and keep your hands and feet next to your body went to are kicking your feet to swim. I had an underwater camera and got some cool shots.
Day 3 Free Day. We shopped and took a bus to Palm Cove beach resort. We just swam and checked out some shops but bought nothing. Really rittzy place though. Day 4 Extreme Whitewater Rafting on the Tully River near Mission Beach. Got up at 6am to take a bus south a little was toward the Tully. We were the Extreme group, which meant smaller groups are we went ahead of the other 146 people. We traveled down the Tully Rapids with 3 boats. Heidi and I were with 4 others girls from England and had a great time during the rapids. The river was a 4 on a scale to 6 (6 being unable to raft). We feel out many time, and sometimes willingly we could just jump out and float the rapids.
Day 5 We spent the whole day traveling. From Taxi, airbus, plane, bus-and walking we spent around 11 hours traveling, most of that sitting. All in all so much fun! Would do it again! More thumbnails ...
