Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

The weather was getting warmer once I arrived in Sydney. I could actually wear a sleeveless shirt, but still with pants. It was so cold between Melbourne and Sydney. The morning I was in Canberra it was 3 degrees, but it quickly warmed up closer to Sydney. Not too much to see between Melbourne and Sydney. Lots of hills and tons of farmland. I got to pet and see my first wild kangaroos. Don't mind my pictures if I ever get them up...lots of landscape and animal pictures. Supposedly there is a lot to do during the day in Canberra, but it has no nightlife. I decided not to stay, I didn't really want to spend a few days walking around museums, government buildings etc. I much prefer the outdoors now that the temperature is warmer.
I've been tasting some good Australian wine, I'm still trying to get a liking for white wine. Although the wine that I have tasted here seems different then the Australian wines that I've had at home. I really like the ones at home compared to the ones that I've had here so far. One winery gave 11 generous tastes for $2 which included desert wines and ports. I'm not a fan of port. I felt so ill on the bus afterwards, it didn't help that I was sitting near the back, had not eaten lunch, and that we were at the winery at 11am...I quickly moved to the front of the bus.
I'm staying in the Red Light District (Kings Cross) area of Sydney. It's a crazy area, so much stuff going on 24/7. There are so many different types of people in this area. However, it's a popular place for backpackers. There are pretty good deals around like $15 hostels and $6 large pasta meals. However, I didn't want to leave the hostel the first night, since I arrived later in the night, and the area looked so sketchy. I was told that I shouldn't wonder around the area late at night by myself, not that I was planning to, but it just makes you think. The hostel is in an alley way which made it seem kind of scary. I don't know why I keep finding these sketchy places. It turned out to be pretty good, there are even tv's, fridges and kettles in the rooms. Everything was fine the next day once I got my bearing in daylight.
I'm on my way up to Bryon Bay tomorrow...time to learn how to surf and scuba dive. I'm ready to get out of Sydney, it's been fun but I'm really looking forward to the beaches along the east coast. I'm meeting a ton of people unfortunately everyone that I meet is either just finishing their trip or are only traveling for a few weeks which means they are spending less time than me everywhere. I love waking up with the feeling that I'm going to be meeting new people and doing new things each day.
The Blue Mountains which are about two hours west of Sydney were amazing, it has been one of the best things that I have done so far. I spend two days there, during the night I was there it SNOWED!?!? and there was ice on the roads the next morning. Once the sun came out the next morning all the snow and ice disappeared. I met two girls from Norway and we did a good hike around the 3 Sisters. The second day I did my first solo hike which was about 4 hours excluding breaks. It was amazing, but kind of scary since it got pretty rugged along the trail and I wasn't sure if I would run into any Australian wildlife, and I only saw two other small parties on the trails. It was the most difficult, but best hike that I ever done.
I saw a Chinese symphony at the Sydney Opera house. I have never walked so much in my life. The habourfront is beautiful with tons of walking paths. The stars are beautiful at night when you are away from the city, different than the ones at home. Bondi beach wasn't as impressive as I thought that it would be, but I had such high expectations, but it's a surfers beach, so maybe if I was there to surf it would have been better.
I'm going to try putting up my pictures in Byron Bay when I will hopefully have more time and a fast Internet connection. I've taken so many that I might end up burning them onto cd and sending them home. We'll see what happens.
