After a 27 hr train journey we eventually ended up in Yangshou. I've had longer train journeys, but on this one I ended up with a stomach bug from (I think) eating chicken noodles in the train restaurant( bad , bad idea), so it felt never ending. We got to Yangshou and I spent a week in bed sick. Eventually I was ok and was able to appreciate this beautiful town. We were staying in a wooden guesthouse with the nicest staff and it was only 10 euro a night. The food there was lovely, as was the cafes and restaurants in town. I had my first nachos in weeks! its a real backpacker heaven, but not too touristy. I'd say that it will be in a few years though.
Myself and Vinnie rented bikes and cycled up to caves 15km outside of town. Thankfully there were cycle lanes all the way as asian drivers are absolutely crazy. i didn't end up going too deep into the caves as they were pretty small (Vinnie had to crawl through some of the caves, there's pictures of him in one.)
There was another guy caving as well so him and vinnie did the harder caves and also went for a dip in the mudbaths. I have a picture of these 2 covered in mud, its hilarous. More thumbnails ...
