. I ask to speak to the manager and request this be resolved as we are not locals and are impacted on both ends, no place to stay in New York and loose out on our expensive hotel in the Bahamas. They keep telling me that we have to wait to see if a seat opens up, but it doesn't look good. When I tell Zinije and the kids the bad news, their happy smiles turn into frowns. The flight starts to board and I'm not getting any answers from airline representatives, so I start preparing myself for not flying to the bahamas today and who I need to call. The insurance company is the first on my mind and Bahamas hotel the second. This flight is really messed up, everyones seats are all mixed up, a lady was flying with 4 kids and they all had separate seats and the airline reps kept giving them the same answer, "there isn't anything we can do". As the last passenger walks onto the plane, the representative calls me and confirms we will not fly today, I'm in a better frame of mind now and start asking the right questions and negotiate with what happens next. In short, our seat is guaranteed for next flight which is tomorrow, the airline provides us with a decent hotel nearby with meal vouchers and we receive a compensation amount in cash. So financially we are better off, but still hugely inconvenienced as we spend one less day in the Bahamas. But I keep telling the family to be positive as things could always be worse. We get our boarding pass with the seat numbers for tomorrow, collect our cash compensation and pick up our bags and head for the hotel. It doesn't take long for our moods to pick up and we start to enjoy the remainder of a day that started off so badly. As we make our way to the hotel, the kids ask me where are we going to stay tonight, I tell them Bahama Jersey.
I knew the smooth run we were having on this trip had to end sooner or later and today was that day. After a great breakfast, we check out of our hotel in New York City and catch a cab to Newark Airport in New Jersey, where we will be catching our flight to Nassau in the Bahamas. We line up to get our boarding pass and check in our bags and it's all self service, I punch in our reservation number, scan our passports and then have to wait for a staff member to validate our documents. We get to the end of the process and there is no seat number allocated, when I ask why not, they are not sure and tell me to validate with staff members when we get to our gate C85. When we get to the gate, I ask why we don't have seat numbers, I am told told that the flight has been overbooked and we have been INVOLUNTARY DENIED to fly today. I pause for a moment and can't believe what I'm hearing, one hundred thoughts rush through my mind, why us, we booked 8 months ago, where are we going to stay, our Bahamas hotel is paid
