Today we took a train to Nice, France. We had no clue what was in store for us there. All we knew was that there was a beautiful park & a waterfall overlooking the city and beaches. The entire main boulevard was under contradiction from the train station down to a piazza just above the beach front. While walking down it we were a little worried, it looked a little trashy. But then we saw a huge fountain that changed height/pressure in height. There was a large shallow pool that was empty with what looked like miniature spouts. Obviously it was a fountain, but dry for some reason or another, maybe cleaning. But we saw pictures of it when it was filled, and you could actually go in it! Almost like a mini water park!
We stopped at a little place to eat lunch, where we all had salads except Erin. Kara had a salad with cheeses and walnuts, Dana had one with crab meat, Erin had a breakfast dish (a crepe with eggs fried in it), and Ashley and I had a chef salad. After we finally felt we were getting the hang of our basic Italian, we had to go to France. No one spoke Italian...and barely any English. It was so hard. All we knew was Bonsure, Madame, Misure, wee, and merce (I butchered those spellings I know, Adrianna I didn't have you to help me!).
The beach didn't have sand. They were larger, smooth rocks. We all took one for a souvenir and wrote on it. Walking on the beach we saw a mixture of clothes and topless people. I walked down to the blue water that you could see straight to the bottom of.
At the top of the mountain there was a two-tear waterfall overlooking Nice. The first tear was 3/4 up the mountain then we went up two flights of stairs to the major waterfall. It was so amazingly beautiful. I took a panorama both side to side and top to bottom. Sooo amazing. We ran into a couple from North Carolina who took our pictures after we took theirs. After working up an appetite, we ate at a nice french restaurant. The waitress was probably the best we have had since being in Europe and spoke pretty decent English! The food was amazing. Ashley got clams/oysters, Kara had a steak with Parmesan & mushroom cream sauce, Erin had a pizza (in France, I know), Dana had a shrimp platter with a french recipe, and I had a sirloin streak with sauce made with cream, pepper, and Cognac (best I have EVER had). I will learn how to make it before I come back to the States. Of course we all had french fries (my weakness - one of the many). Erin and I ordered rich ice cream sundays with chocolate & vanilla ice cream, tons of whipped cream, and syrup on it. Dana, Kara, and Ash all had crepes with ice cream. We stopped at some of the vendors, I bought a ring and tried another one on - it fit when I put it on - then it wouldn't come off so I started freaking out and the lady was laughing at me and telling me to relax in her broken English, we got it off. Erin bought a cute necklace.
The night train we took home was awful. We were able to get a cubby to ourselves (the 5 of us) but sleeping sucked. We got excited because we figured out that the seats all reclined and made a huge full bed, without spaces in between cushions. But it was still so uncomfortable trying to sleep with the five of us squished in like sardines.
It was such a beautiful weekend. I'm so glad I went. I have over 150 pictures to upload. But I think I'm going to only upload the good ones. I hope to have time soon to up load them. I have to piece all the panoramas together also. Next weekend we're going on a school trip to Chianti (wine tasting) which is much easier with less hassle of trying to plan and organize it, and then we're going to try to go to Sienna. So we're excited.
Until next weekend! Ciao!!!

Nice Train Station
To my left there were rocks and cliffs plunging into the Mediterranean, and on my right the coast line melted into hills and mountains covered with villas and houses. We laid our towels down on the rocks and debated going all out and immersing ourselves into the culture. So we all laid out for a while, then decided on the count of three (with our eyes closed) we were going to do it. It was too funny, we all laid on our stomaches so it looked like we had them off, but were covered. We stayed on the beach for two hours and then headed up an entire hillside of stairs. At the top of the mountain there was a two-tear waterfall overlooking Nice.
