So Kara and I just spent 4 hours walking around the Santa Maria Novella area of Florence. For studio we have to document and diagram the entire area for a studio project. It's neat learning new places. We have the Train Station in our area so it was neat, yet VERY sketchy at times. I def. don't want to go back at night.
So travel plans have been made for this weekend. Kara, Dana, Erin, and I are all taking a trip to Genoa, Italy and Nice, France. Genoa is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, but more importantly for us, for the 500 year anniversary of Columus' voyage, they had Renzo Piano (very famous architect) redesign the entire harbor in 1992. It's a beautiful place that not many people ever think to go there (not many tourists). So we'll be arriving there late Friday morning on a train, exploring, going to the 2nd largest aquarium in Europe, and sleeping over...then Saturday we catch a 3 hour train to Nice, France. Nice has a beach in which we will be working on our tans :) I'm getting pale you know. Then we take a night train back to Florence.
So for these trips I won't be able to update until Tuesday after my studio project is done (I need no extra distractions). I'm going to switch and use my 1GB memory card...and bring my camera charger...we all know I'm snap happy! :) It's better that way!
Also, side note, Nino (the owner of the bistro bellow us) made us a dessert with chocolate/vanilla ice cream with some kind of capuccino liquor over top of it with whipped cream - sooo good (minus the capuccino, you know I don't like coffe). Then Samantha, the Philippino lady who waitresses there, she always gives us a discount :) The lady who works there during the day has finally warmed up to us. She's making jokes with us now. It's so nice to be able to get to know the locals and learn their culture (and reap the benifits)...plus they're more willing to help you with your italian (compared to serve you and shoo you out).
Until Tuesday, Arrivederci!
Ti auguro un buon fine settimana! (have a good weekend!)
