After an emotional farewell I set off north to meet the rest of the guys at their hotel in Novato. Chris's cousin James and his partner Polly ledus on a tour of northern California including a ride down Highway 1, the Paciific Coast Highway, before leaving us at the Golden Gate Bridge.
Heading back south we cleared SF then took Skyline Boulevard to Alice's Restaurant a famous stop for Californian motorcyclists where we had lunch. Many of the American bikers came over for a chat when they saw the foreign registration plates and were very friendly and also interested in our journey as well
Leaving Alice's we took some stunning roads along Big Basin Way whichwends it's way through redwood forests. The roads were heavily overbanded and I could feel the front wheel of the bike squirming about on the soft asphalt. She only broke free the once but luckily the tyre regained grip and on we went.
It was very warm today when we got south of SF, the highest temp being 34C. Way to much for me, but I have being taking lot's of fluids on board in order to remain well hydrated.
The US open golf tournament is being held in Monterey and some of the hotels were quoting outrageous room rates. Best Western wanted $250 per room, but Days Inn accommodated us for $50, which although at the top of our intended price range was the much less painful option.
Tomorrow sees us turn our faces east.....................
