Day 7: London to Capetown
When: November 20th, 2007 - Night
Point of Entry: On a plush green coach in an apartment that I rented for our stay.

We finally arrived at our third destination earlier today - Capetown, South Africa. I was expecting the theme music for James Earl Jones' character in "Coming to America" to start blasting out of nowhere. But alas, it didn't. Instead, I was greeted by a bright warm South African Sun fit for a King or a weary traveller, in my case.

I really didn't know what to expect when we got here. To be honest with you, we didn't really plan to do anything here except try to take in as much of the history and culture. I've read so much about this place in college and in the weeks leading up to our trip. But even still, I felt like I didn't have a point of reference.

For starters, they drive on the left side of the road. Which was something I had to get used to quickly since I had to hire a car for our transport. The guys at Avais were really helpful and gave me some advise. Simply put, they advised, "Don't drink and drive, and don't hit anything." Fair enough, no drinking South Africa's world famous wine whilst driving thru the V&A Waterfront. Check. However, it was still a bit hair raising to drive to our apartment. "Left side! Get on the left side, Alain!!"

Angela and I were both pretty tired when we got to Mandela Rhodes Place. But seeing our apartment for the first time was a very hollistic experience. This place is AMAZING!! I can't believe we got this place for the price we paid for (I'll attach some photos when I get back). We definitely got our second wind after walking around checking out all the cool stuff it comes with.

The young man who showed us around the facilities was extremely helpful. His name is Junior. Afterwards, Angela and I were both starting to feel the drag from the long flight over here. Thankfully for us the flight wasn't fully booked.  Angela took notice of this and claimed one of the empty middlle rows. I didn't have the energy nor the moxie to do the same so I stayed put. I quickly joined her, however, prior to take off when I noticed that my seat was within earshot of a screaming baby. Fuck that - I wanted to get some sleep. We sprawled out in our make shift upper class seating space and knocked out. But only after we watched the Simpsons movie, of course.

Anyway - back to Cape Town. We have a wonderful view of Table Mountain from our apartment balcony. As luck would have it, the weather was stable enough for the cable trolleys to allow site-seers to visit the summit. Woohoo! We knew we had to take advantage of this opportunity. Who knows if we'll ever get lucky with weather like this again!

The view was spectacular up there. We took tons of pictures. The drive there was a bit crazy. I think we managed to get ripped off when we parked at the foot of the summit. Some dude dressed in a suspicious parking uni greeted us and asked us for 20 Rand for parking. We found out later from Junior that these guys are hustlers. Hahahah. Fun times.
Anyway - tired now. Got to do some laundry.
