The Shakers were an interesting bunch -- known for their ritual dancing -- or shaking -- and their communal lifestyle, they thrived in the early 1800s, but their beliefs in the sins of procreation did not help them maintain a population. They also believed in gender-equality (each village had four men and four women on their council.) They were famous for their brooms -- one of the 83 patents they held, collectively.
We stayed in the village, at the Stone House, and enjoyed the tour of the villages. Also took a riverboat tour on the Kentucky River.
