Marjorie arrived this morning and seemed a bit anxious. She told us there was a big storm coming with heavy rain. She usually travels by bus and she had a bad experience where the bus was caught up in high water during a storm ( and she doesn't swim-amazing to live in a place surrounded by water and not swim!) . She took out flashlights and candles in case we needed them.
With the weather sounding ominous , we decided to try underground exploring at Harrison's Cave. It is a big attraction here in Barbados. A very large cave with a tram that takes you through to see the rooms and formations. The tour itself was ok but we had more fun getting there .....driving through the countryside just taking in the surroundings. After our cave visit, we were in desperate need of gasoline for the car( Gas stations are few and far between unless you are on the coast). The roads here are not well marked but the map I have gave us a general idea of where we were. We drove around in Bridgetown, the capital, for a bit. Even in the capital, chickens and sheep can wander out in front of your car!
Rob had learned of a great place for fresh fish sandwiches, frequents by locals. It is called Cuz. We managed to find it and it was literally a shack on the beach. The guys ordered two all-in-one sandwiches which is what is recommended. It is fried fish, a fried egg and a thick slice of cheese with lettuce and tomato. I know it sounds weird but they said it was the best they ever had. The girls and I were pretty hungry as well and decided to try the local Chefette. Chefette is the fast food of Barbados , there are no McDonalds here. We were told it could not compete with Chefette. It was typical fast food.
We continued our way down the southern coast stopping at a beach to take some photos and have a smoothie from a smoothie truck. We traveled to the southern most tip which is popular with surfers and watched a man kite surf in what looked to be dangerous waves. It's pretty amazing to see the change in the ocean from the west coast( I wouldn't go in it on a bet!) , the southern coast, (I might go in waist deep if there was a lifeguard present ) and the east coast (where it so smooth like a mirror with small gentle waves- I could stay in all day!)
We made our way back and relaxed for bit. Rob and I wandered across the street to take some sunset photos and enjoyed a drink at the bar. We made some dinner then watched a movie. Our nights seem sort of low key but honestly we are enjoying them! Quiet and relaxing , the way a vacation should be.
