It was an impossibly early start. Our flight was at 8 out of JFK so the car service we used picked us up at 3 am! It was an uneventful ride to the airport followed by long lines once arriving but we made our way to the gate to find our flight was detailed an hour or so. Still not bad...
Once on board, we had another delay. Apparently, a passenger checked in, checked bags but was not on the plane. This is a security risk and since they couldn't locate the passenger, they had to go into the cargo area and find the bag! Another 45 minutes of just sitting there. The flight was smooth, no issues. Everyone took a little snooze on the way. Cara managed the most.... That girl can sleep anywhere! She slept in the car, in the airport and on the plane!
We made it through immigration and customs easily but again had to wait in a few lines.
Next was the rental car. Now I will have to admit, I was a little hesitant about this. Barbados follows the same driving rules as England so you have to drive on the left side of the road and the driver sits on the right!
All of the cars here are on the small side so we jammed the 5 of us, our 5 suitcases and carry on bags into a Toyota Yaris! Rob is doing the driving since he has experience with driving on the left. Now I know what some of you are thinking, he only has one good eye but we figured the good eye is on the right so he can see the oncoming traffic better!!! As we pulled  out of the airport,  I checked our directions to the villa and we headed out into traffic. Now every thing seems to move at a slower pace here on the island , except traffic! There are no traffic lights but lots of traffic circles and not many signs! We were so concerned with jamming our luggage into the car, that we did not ask about a map. I know it sounds like a disaster but we laughed and laughed and figured we would find our way and that's just what happened.
We needed to travel north then make our way to the coast road, we could see the coast road from the "highway" we were on and decided to take the next turnoff to get down to it. Now it looked like an OK road until we went about a quarter of a mile, then the road became very narrow and bumpy, barely wide enough for one car. It turns out the road we traveled on was the road that led right to our development!
The villa, called Coral Breeze, is in a gated community and is a one minute stroll to the beach. We were greeted by Marjorie, the housekeeper, (sounds fancy doesn't it?). She had a picture of ice water and cool towels waiting for us. Amazing! She showed us around demonstrated the appliances and best of all, she said just leave any laundry and she would do it! I wanted to the happy dance right then and there! ( Any of you with a family of five know that laundry seems to go up exponentially as you add more people.)
It was raining when we arrived so we did not head over to the beach but Robbie managed to jump right into the lap pool that is outside of our terrace. The terrace is like a slice of heaven, private and pretty. There is a 40 foot lap pool , dining area , sitting area and 2 chaise lounges just outside of my bedroom. Robbie loves the pool! We relaxed for a bit then headed out to find dinner.
We went to a nice restaurant about 5 minutes away called the Lone Star. The food was good, not exceptional but the setting was amazing. Right on the water but covered to keep us from getting wet. We had quite a light show with lightening out at sea.
We headed back home, I took a a swim with the two Robs and fell into bed exhausted!
