Today was all about the animals! We grabbed a quick breakfast in our room and headed out to the animal kingdom. Our first stop was Expedition Everest. We all went on but Robbie and Emma were a little rattled when we got off. Next, was Kali River Rapids. Experience has taught me that I would rather look like a fool in a rain  poncho than walk around with a wet bottom all day, so I wore my poncho and looked like a fool, but I was a fool with a dry bottom!
Carey, Joe, Emma and Robbie were not so lucky! They were in the hot seat and got absolutely soaked to the skin!
We enjoyed the lion king show. It is quite impressive with trampolining, aerialists..
,singing and dancing. We all had a great time. Next we grabbed some lunch and hit Its tough to be a Bug, 3D movie. Joe was laughing so hard I could here him 8 people away! The tree of life guides you into the theater and it is quite amazing with carvings of animals worked into it. The kids hopped onto the river rapids one last time before we headed back to the hotel for some pool and rest time. Cara and I stayed at the room for a bit and caught a glimpse of the animal feeding right outside our window. It was so cool. The gamekeeper started tapping the bucket and all of the animals started showing up,like a parade!
We headed back to the Animal Kingdom for 6 to attend the Safari Celebration Grand Gatherings dinner, This is a special event for parties of 8 or larger and we scheduled it in advance. Since the bus ride in the morning was so quick we figured 30 minutes travel time would be sufficient. Big mistake, the bus came later than expected and we needed to wait for handicap assistance for another passenger. By the time we arrived at the park we were sure they had left without us! As soon as the bus door opened Joe, Rob and Robbie took off running hoping to save our night. It was already 6:10. Carey myself and the 3 girls moved as quickly as possible but had to stop at security for a bag check. Thankfully things were running a bit behind and we made it but the guys were drenched in sweat from sprinting!!
It was an amazing event and worth the running. First we met our guide and were given a special collectible pin. Then we enjoyed an evening ride onto the safari. The ride moved a bit slower than the regular ride and there were plenty of opportunities for pictures. We saw hippo, rhino, giraffe, cheetah, lion, warthog and many gazelle. Next was an amazing dinner at The Tusker House Restaurant. It was a buffet with just the right amount of traditional american food mixed with traditional African food ,as well as a kids buffet. I learned there were quite a number of dishes I enjoyed.
The entertainment consisted of an African band then a visit from Timon and Rafiki from the lion king. The kids also got to visit with a tarantula and a snake! It was a fabulous time.
To end the night we headed back for some night swimming/hot tubbing. The kids had fun taking pics of themselves planking in odd spots. Planking, for those of you who do not know, is taking a photo of someone lying face down, like a plank, in unusual places. It doesn't seem to make much sense but is a current trend so you may see a number of planking photos throughout the blog.
The men are golfing tomorrow and the rest of us may hit a waterpark. Tomorrow night we head to Tampa for a Yankee game!
