Where I stayed
We had a very nice tour guide who showed us the highlights of the city. We visited the Palazzo Vecchio where the original David is displayed. We did not go in because the line was so long but there is an exact replica just outside the building that we were able to admire. I did not realize how big the statue is.
We then visited the Ponte Vecchio which is an original bridge built in the 1200's. It is filled with gold merchants and we may be going back there tomorrow, hopefully my wallet survives
We then visited the Cathedral, Giotto's tower and il Duomo. The outside is breathtaking but the inside is amazingly sparse.
We grabbed a quick lunch, I had an amazing spinach frittata. We then boarded the bus to head to Sienna for the afternoon. Sienna is amazing. It is a village constructed in the medieval times and is still a busting community. The streets are very steep and narrow with many dark alleys. It was very cool. It was easy to imagine people walking around in their medieval dress. I really enjoyed it but the streets are very steep to climb. Sienna is the sister city for Waterbury. See if you recognize the tower if I ever get the pics up!
We had a nice dinner and came back to the hotel. We took a couple of the girls out for a quick shopping trip and came back to the hotel to get some rest. We are heading back to Florence for the morning then on to Venice! I am still having a lot of trouble uploading. The Internet is spotty even at the hotel. I had an easier time in the wilderness of the U.S.! Will keep trying. Check my facebook page, I will try to upload a few.
