The next stop today was the Vatican. We had a fabulous tour of the Vatican museum which has amazing works of art. The Sistine chapel can take your breath away but was jammed with people. One of the most spectacular sights is St. Peters Basilica! Descriptions and pictures cannot do it justice.
Speaking of pictures, I am trying to upload some so sorry they are not there yet. We took a night tour of the city by bus and then went to the Trevi Fountain. Cara and I threw a coin in in hopes to return and I shared the story of grandpa falling in as young man, which she found amusing. We had some wonderful gelato and have a feeling there will be a lot more of that on our menu. All in all it has been a wonderful day.
The students have been amazing! They are respectful, listening and asking questions. I am making great new friends with other adults on the trip. We really have a great group.
Tomorrow we are going to have some free time to explore the city.
Today was a perfect day! The weather was great. We woke up rested and headed out to the Coliseum and Roman forum. There are not words to describe how incredible it is to walk around where people have been walking for thousands of years. The Coliseum is so immense, it is easy to imagine it filled with people there to watch the gladiators battle. It is amazing in it's size! The guides have been so informative and we learned a lot about ancient Rome. OUr guide today is actually an archeologist so she was great! It is interesting to see the ruins in the middle of the city surrounded by modern buildings.
