Where I stayed
White River KOA
I was excited to get to the Badlands! We decided to head to the campground to drop off the RV and have lucnh before heading out to explore
The landscape in South Dakota is diverse. Eastern South Dakota is flat farmland. Once past the Missouri River, It becomes more rolling hills and grasslands with the Badlands in the distance. They are an impressive sight to behold! I took so many pictures that I had a hard time deciding which ones to post.
We drove the loop road which offers cool views as well as places to get out and hike and explore. The kids couldn't wait to get out and hike a bit. We weren't out of the car 10 minutes and it began to thunder. Jenna was off and running again- she had quite a workout today! We plugged along a bit until it started to rain more steadily. We really can't complain about the weather as we have had great days, a couple of stormy nights but greaty days and easy traveling weather. We spotted some prairie dogs, rabbit and long horn cattle. We have seen more cows thanyou can shake a stick at. The kids keep looking for buffalo but so far no luck.
The loop road took us into the town of Wall, home of the "famous" Wall Drug
The loop brought us back into the park and we did a bit more climbing/hiking.Once aganin it started to rain. We headed back to camp, made some dinner and settled in with National Lampoon's Vacation( a fitting tribute!)
Tomorrow we hit the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, etc. We are staying in a state park so I am not sure about the wifi but will try to make an entry.
