On the road again!. Today we were headed to out destination, Badlands National Park.. We were moving along nicely when Rob decided on a must see stop, The 1880 Town. It is a recreation of an 1880 town, complete with some of the original buildings,(in ither words, run down and over priced!)It was quite a destination. Rob and Robbie seemed to enjoy it. Jenna was afraid( there's a surprise) that there would be ghosts( as it was a ghost town). At one point we were poking around in one of the outbuildings when a bird flew out at me. I let out a gasp and before I could say "A bird!". Jenna was gone, convinced I was being attacked by a ghost, she ran so fast she left a trail of smoke! The girls and I were not as impressed but we plugged along with the men. Cara and I continued to spook Jenna along the way( We had to have some fun)

I was excited to get to the Badlands! We decided to head to the campground to drop off the RV and have lucnh before heading out to explore. The campground is nice but in the middle of nowhere!. The town, Interior, SD has a population of 67!. I have more family members than that! There is no cell service but thankfully there is wifi. The kids enjoyed riding their bikes and exploring the campground and adjacent  White River.

The landscape in South Dakota is diverse. Eastern South Dakota is flat farmland. Once past the Missouri River, It becomes more rolling hills and grasslands with the Badlands in the distance. They are an impressive sight to behold! I took so many pictures that I had a hard time deciding which ones to post.

We drove the loop road which offers cool views as well as places to get out and hike and explore. The kids couldn't wait to get out and hike a bit. We weren't out of the car 10 minutes and it began to thunder. Jenna was off and running again- she had quite a workout today! We plugged along a bit until it started to rain more steadily. We really can't complain about the weather as we have had great days, a couple of stormy nights but greaty days and easy traveling weather. We spotted some prairie dogs, rabbit and long horn cattle. We have seen more cows thanyou can shake a stick at. The kids keep looking for buffalo but so far no luck.

The loop road took us into the town of Wall, home of the "famous" Wall Drug. We have been looking at billboards for the last 400 miles. It sort of reminded me of "South of the Border" in South Carolina, famous for nothing.

The loop brought us back into the park and we did a bit more climbing/hiking.Once aganin it started to rain. We headed back to camp, made some dinner and settled in with National Lampoon's Vacation( a fitting tribute!)

Tomorrow we hit the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, etc. We are staying in a state park so I am not sure about the wifi but will try to make an entry.
