Blue Mountains

Its proximity to Sydney, astounding scenary, and slightly cooler climate, makes Blue Mountains a popuplar weekend destination for Sydneysiders escaping from their everyday hustle. It is quite a large area, so although the number of visitors is huge, it is still not too packed (apart from the very famous lookouts). The first site we visited were the Wentworth Falls and the forest around them, it has not been raining very much, but there was still enough water there to create an impressive waterfall. :-) Our 3-hour walk was not the easiest one, but we enjoyed it very much and even saw a few animals on the way, mainly birds, lizards and spiders. Some of the lizards are smart enough to remember the sound of opening a bag of crackers and came over to beg.

Trekking around the Wentworth Falls

On the way to Katoomba, where we would spend the night, we stopped at a few lookouts - the Sublime Point and the Echo Point - we could see the famous Three Sisters from both of them. Our caravan park was right across the street from the Katoomba Falls lookout. In the evening Nuno decided to go for a walk from Katoomba Falls to the Echo Point, through the Prince Henry Cliff walk, to watch the Sunset... Eva was lazy, so she stayed home (our camper van) and did the laundry. The walk was really nice, but the weather changed rapidly and Nuno barely made it to Echo Point before the thunder storm and heavy rain started. At echo point there was a tiny sheltered corner were him and a bunch of others were stranded for about an hour, waiting out the storm, still it was really nice, the rain and sunset light together produced quite a spectacular effect.

Tough job!

The next morning we set off for the Grand Canyon walk, it took us less then 3 hours and was pretty exhausting, yet amazing. The climate changed on the way as we descended from the very hot and dry bush to the humid and cool creek at the bottom of the canyon, and then back to the top. We met very few people on the way and the whole trip was pretty peaceful, although we were nearly crawling towards the end of it. Luckily there was a small bush cafe nearby the car park, so we stopped by and ate a huge sundae topped with cream and biscuit, that saved our lives. :-) After that we drove to Lithgow, with some sightseing stops on the way, where we would spend the night.

A proximidade de Sydney, espectaculares paisagens, e clima ligeiramente mais fresco, fazem das Blue Mountains (Montanhas Azuis) um destino de fim de semana bastante popular. O primeiro sítio que visitámos nas montanhas foram as Wentworth Falls (Cataratas Wentworth), apesar de não ter chovido muito nos dias anteriores ainda havia água suficiente para criar cataratas impressionantes. Fizémos uma caminhada de cerca de 3 horas na área à volta das cataratas, não foi fácil pois haviam muitas subidas (e descidas) e centenas de degraus, mas ainda assim gostámos bastante. Pelo caminho encontrámos montes de pequenos animais: muitos pássaros, alguns lagartos (incluindo um dragão da montanha que conhecia o som de abrir um pacote de bolachas!), e algumas aranhas de aspecto ameaçador (muitas das aranhas mais venenosas do mundo são Australianas, o mesmo se passa com as cobras Australianas).

Depois das Wentworth Falls dirigimo-nos para Katoomba, onde iriamos passar a noite, pelo caminho parámos em alguns miradouros - Sublime Point e Echo Point - de onde para além das vistas espectaculares sobre vales e montanhas, se podem também ver as "Três Irmãs" (Three Sisters), uma das formações rochosas mais simbólicas da área. O nosso parque de caravanas ficava bastante perto do miradouro das Katoomba Falls (Cataratas de Katoomba). À tardinha o Nuno decidiu fazer uma caminhada desde as Katoomba Falls até ao Echo Point, para ver o pôr do Sol... a Eva foi mais preguiçosa e decidiu ficar em casa (ou seja, na carrinha) e levar a nossa roupa para lavar. A caminhada foi bastante agradável, mas o tempo mudou bruscamente e o Nuno mal consegui chegar ao Echo Point antes da tempestade começar. No Echo Point havia um pequeno canto mais ou menos abrigado onde ele e mais alguns turistas ficaram retidos por mais de uma hora, à espera que a chuva parasse, mesmo assim foi bastante interessante, a chuva e a luz do pôr do Sol criaram alguns efeitos espectaculares.

Na manhã seguinte fizémos a caminhada no Grand Canyon, foram 3 horas extenuantes, mas impressionantes. No topo do desfiladeiro estava bastante calor, mas à medida que desciamos foi ficando mais fresco (e no final foi obviamente o contrário), e durante a caminhada não encontrámos practicamente ninguém. O final da caminhada foi uma hora sempre a subir, e de volta ao calor, por isso acabámos estafados. Por sorte (ou talvez não) havia um café mesmo ao pé do parque de estacionamento, onde comemos uns enormes e merecidos gelados, para repôr o nível calórico. Depois conduzimos até Lithgow, com algumas paragens pelo caminho, onde passámos a noite.

CZ:
Blue Mountains (Modre hory) jsou vikendovym utocistem obyvatel Sydney. Jezdi sem snad uplne vsichni, ale protoze Modre hory jsou celkem rozlehle, neni tu ani moc narvano, teda krome tech nejpopularnejsich rozhleden a vyhledu. Nejdriv jsme navstivili vodopady Wentworth Waterfalls, sice za poslednich nekolik dni toho moc nenaprselo, ale stejne byly pekne, lesy v okoli taky. :-) Nase vychazka byla ponekud upocena, lezli jsme porad nahoru a dolu, ale stalo to za to, po ceste jsme potkali i spoustu zivocichu - ruzne ptactvo, jestery a pavouky. Vetsina z nich je celkem odrzla (teda krome pavouku) a jak clovek zasusti, hned naklusou a zebraj susenky.

Cestou do kempu jsme se jeste staveli u par rozhleden - Sublime Point a Echo Point - z obou jsou videt slavne Tri sestry :-) (Three Sisters) a z kempu pres ulici jsme meli pekny vyhled na vodopady Katoomba Falls. Vecer Nuno vyrazil na pozorovacku zapadu slunce, od vodopadu Katoomba Falls dosel az na Echo Point a cestou minul Prince Henry Cliff. Me se nikam nechtelo a navic nekdo musel vyprat, tak jsem zustala doma (v aute) a navstivila mistni pradelnu. Drahousovi mezi tim vyprsela licence a cestou zacalo lejt jak z konve (velmi slusne receno), blesky litaly, hromy buracely, jen tak tak se stihnul schovat pod skalou u Echo Pointu. Samotou netrpel, nekolik dalsich turistu uz tam cekalo, az prestane prset, a nakonec destive fotky byly docela zajimave.

Grose Valley

Druhy den rano jsme se vydali na vychazku do Velkeho kanonu (Great Canyon), sice nam to trvalo asi jenom 3 hodiny, ale na konci jsme byli celkem oddelany, ale vizualne uspokojeni. :-) Na zacatku trasy je horko a sucho a po sestupu do kanonu se fauna dramaticky zmeni, vlhke a chladne podminky jsou vhodnejsi pro tropictejsi rostliny, pro nas to bylo spis jak ze sauny do studene sprchy. No a na konci prochazky to bylo vsechno zase naopak. Cestou jsme v podstate nepotkali nohu, takze to bylo cele takove mirumilovne... :-) Ke konci jsme se sice plazili a plivali krev, ale i tak to bylo krasne. Nejkrasnejsi ale bylo, ze na konci naseho snazeni byla kavarna, kde meli uzasne zmrzlinove pohary, kakze jsme hned hbite doplnili kalorie. Potom jsme se vydali do mestecka Lithgow, kde jsme stravili noc.
