Today we left Moriarty, NM and went into Albuquerque. We walked around for a while and went into a few shops that were open. After that 66 jumps from side roads to the expressway and back a few times. The speed limit in NM is 75 so that helps make up some time. Our next stop for the day was the Petrified Forest. It's bad luck to remove petrified wood from the park so we bought some at the gift shop. What they don't tell you is you can find pieces of the stuff everywhere within 30 miles. Everywhere we stopped outside the park had petrified wood all over the ground. The highlight of the day was arriving in Holbrook, AZ and getting a room at the famous Wigwam Motel. It was $50 for the night and the room was a blast. Anyone traveling Route 66 should try to spend a night in this unique motel. I have the feeling that my nephews Matt and John are going to want to travel Route 66 after they see all the pictures from places that inspired characters and places in the movie Cars.
