Day 3 was good. The day started out overcast. We went to an area today known as Red Oak. I'm not sure what to say about this place. We pulled in around 9:30am and it's basically a town comprised of old houses, church, post office, everything. The weird part was we were the only ones around except for a few people that appeared to live in one of the houses. I'm not quite sure about it yet, you'll have to see the video. We continued onward, and saw "Mater", seriously the truck Mater (see picture). Route 66 goes away from the Expressway and through a few towns, one being Commerce which is the hometown of Mickey Mantel. Then we drove a 9-foot-wide stretch of 66 between Miami and Afton. Before Tulsa was the town of Catoosa, which has a famous blue whale built in 1970. We also stopped at a restored Packard service station that is now a museum for Packards. We had some interesting driving on the old pavement in the rain, heavy rain. There was one area that water was across the road and I couldn't tell until too late. I think it was less than a half foot deep and only about 8 feet across, but that was kind of scary. The problem is the sides of the road turn up and funnel all the water down the road to the dips. We ended up getting to Clinton a little late but still enough time to get dinner before restaurants close. Tomorrow we head through Texas and into New Mexico.
