Where I stayed
Dubbo Big 4
Narrandera to Dubbo
We slept in a little this morning and got going about 9am, and headed for Dubbo. We left Narrandera when it was sunny and warm, when we got to Dubbo it was cold and raining. We stopped off at a little town Ardlethan, which had a plane that the kids were able to climb all over. We even saw "The Dish" on the drive by. And did a Macca's lunch at Forbes.
Arrived at Dubbo to a really nice caravan park (Big 4) but really cold and wet. The little oil heater we took, really doesn’t do the trick. Glad we brought our electric blankets but poor kids woke up with frozen, red little noses, even with heaps of blankets
Thursday 23rd July
Today was the day the kids had been waiting for. Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Arrived 9.30am (after having to do a load of washing from the night befores “lack of nappy” episode). We had hoped to hire a motorised buggy (effectively a big golf buggy) for the day but they had all gone by the time we arrived. So we decided on bikes (good choice actually), Toby had a bike attached to the back of Adam’s and they peddled together (kinda like a tandem bike). Lily was in a caboose behind Kylie. Great way to get some good exercise. It was a really unusual zoo, we felt like we could get up and close to all the animals, and the way they had created the zoo meant fences were really well hidden. It was really busy in the morning, with heaps of people driving their cars around the zoo, but by the afternoon, we barely saw anyone. The zoo is huge, really beautifully laid out
We saw everything from elephants and giraffes to kangaroos and emus to wolves and monkeys. The kids made sure we took photos of all the birds for Grammy (especially the blue wren).
The kids park at the zoo was sensational, looked quite new and was laid out safari style. Some very clever people made that park.
