With two days remaining until departure, we are madly packing, banding our small new calf Blackie so he won't make any babies while we are away (or ever) and tugging on the placenta still sticking out of our cow Maggie since Blackie came out.  Whew!  Some parts of life on this farm will be easily left behind as we travel to see someone else's farm/forest/rainforest/beach/volcano.  Life with few responsibilities and few belongings might be simpler and slower paced, we'll see.  We are not taking as few belongings as we might wish, because mosquito netting, warm and cold weather clothes and life jackets for the kids seem essential to our journey--we want to be safe and comfortable!

Our goals for this trip are simple and will be expanded upon by the kids once we are on the road: to spend a month as a family in a place unlike our own.  We believe in local and sustainable, but we also believe in far-away and one time experiences.  May this be one of those treats both so different that we gain new perspective and so singular that we remember it as unique and unreplicable.

What a privilege to be able to do this trip, and we hope to return healthy and appreciative to all our friends and family in the States.  Adios!

Way to take the vision into action you guys! We would love to be joining you...may be next year? Safe and adventurous travel and may the force be with you! (Anson made it clear I was NOT a jedi warrior so really do not have access to THE FORCE....sentiments aside)
