Jim: After leaving Queenstown we headed for Dunedin. It supposedly has a massive student population of over 25,000 but upon our arrival on a sunday afternoon it was dead!!! Itseems to be a pretty nice city but there was nobody about at all!! Quite surreal!!
We took in a few museums including one with the most bizarre exhibition i have ever seen, it was basically a room full of film!!! That was it... nothin else in a roon the size of a tennis court. This artist called rebecca something also had a a video playing with two people with magnets on the legs trying to walk around stuck together!! Im no art expert but it wasnt great... i think i could be a modern art artist. We decided to have a night off the beers and headed for the cinema, saw the eagerly awaited (or not) cheaper by the dozen 2. It was a classic, steve martin at his very best. oh yeh it also had the added bonus of havin carmen electra in it, truly inspirational, you cant beat Ms electra in a bikini!!!

After a spot of shopping we headed to the mighty Speights brewery!!! Some thing weve been looking forward to for a while. The tour of the brewery took about an hour and we saw how the beer was made and a bit about the history of speights too. The beer is brewed in an old style allowing gravity to mix all the ingredients together. It was a really old building and we were amazed to think that such a place could produce such good beer!! Although the larger probuction beers are fermented in more modern ways they produce a few speciality beers that are matured in big Kauri wood casks!! Pretty impressive they were as well!! After the tour we got to the important bit... tasting the beer!! Basically we had a free bar to sample all the ales. There were 6 it and we managed to get through them all. Apart from the summer special beer, which was like drinking liquid sugar (or syrup), they were all fine beers!! We definitely need to get speight over to the UK. we had a few more beers on the night but everywhere was so quiet we headed back to the hostel and played some pool for a couple of hours!!

The following day was a pretty quiet one, did a bit more shopping, got a couple of t.shirts for bout 4quid, including me treating myself to a pinky!! So manly. At last ads has bought himself a watch!!! This may not seem like a big deal but he has been asking for the time none stop for several months. He treated himself to a delightful time piece, a 7quid black digital casio effort. Its beautifully crafted and the peak of style. The day was completed by a few more beers and some cricket in the sports bar... another quiet night in dunedin!! We found out that all the students are on summer holiday and dont return until febuary... apparently in 'O' week which we think is there equivalent of freshers week, it "goes off!!" Sadly we wont be here for that.

On to Christchurch as the New Zealand stage of our trip is coming to an end... hopefully there will be a few more people about.

Stay tuned T.Pod fans!!
