Good morning from the near northern tip of NZ!  It's beautiful up here in the Bay of Islands - Paihia, specifically.  Nice to be in a place with a slower pace and that I can get around pretty easy on crutches.  The ankle looks much worse than it feels!  It's fairly swollen and I have bruising along the bottom of the sides of my foot and near my toes on top.  I walked a bit on it today to test it out and it doesn't seem to be a problem.  Everyone is recommending I put it in the water to help it so what can you do but listen. :)  The beach is just 2 1/2 blocks from my hostel and that's very doable at this point.  Still trying to keep my foot elevated so my adventures are limited at this point.  Alex, who is up here, as well, works on a boat and is going to see if his boss is going to take the boat out before we leave here.  That'd be awesome!!  I have found that I'm happiest when I'm in or on the water.

A blessing I noticed today surrounding my ankle - I'm meeting more people than I probably would have because everyone wants to know what happened.  Course I'm a bit sick of talking about it but it's ok if that's what it takes to meet a 60-year-old retired doctor from Northern England, a 40ish Cape Reinga tour guide missing half his teeth and almost lost several of his toes at some point, 19-year-old English guys that want to 'take a spin on the crutches,' and lots and lots of Germans, some a bit over-bearing as to how exactly I should take care of my ankle!

I have the day to myself to just think, read, swim and watch the waves roll in, so I'm going to go do just that!

hugs,
Andrea
