Together with a South Africian couple, Riain and Annal, we drive to the opposite side of the volcano to the ski resort of Turoa. The main reason for this decision is a report that the snow is better on the other side. It turns out to be a good and accurate report with beautiful conditions on the top of the mountain. Similar to yesterday, once we take the ski lifts right to the very top, the snow improves with altitude. Its nice and soft, powdery snow(doesn't hurt when you fall). Excellent conditions today for skiing.
Back at the hostel we take a dip in their hot tubs before a roast beef dinner. Afterwards guests and staff alike watch a movie. Pipers is an excellent lodge, quiet reasonably priced and very homely. Most of the staff are young, some Irish, and we get on well with them.
