The rapids on the Niagara river are thought to be among the fastest in the world, some stories of daredevils includes one guy who walked a tight rope just north of the whirlpool. Not only did he walk a tightrope but he also took with him a stove and pan and when he got to the center point above the river he cooked himself a couple of omelets, ate them, packed up and walked back! Some others went down the river in barrels, some survived, some got caught up in the whirlpool for up to two days, some even took dogs with them in the barrel!
The Falls by day are every bit as breathtaking as by nite. Ad proclaims the Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake to be the highlight of her trip to date. The volume of water falling over the Horseshoe Falls per min is enough to fill 1 million bath tubs. We sit back and enjoy a cool drink overlooking the two Falls before taking a wee walk along the white water gorge.
By six, we are all exhausted and drive south west to Kathies home in London. - But only after stopping off for some excellent ripe peaches in Niagara on the lake. Back at Kathie's place, she prepares a BBQ's for us and we enjoy some Niagara (Pellar estates) wine. We relax on her balcony and hear stories about Ground Hogs, skunks and racoons ... all of which seem to cause nothing but hassle - some stories include one guy who tries to evict an unwelcome groundhog who has dug himself a hole underneath this guy's front porch. The groundhog has tunnelled under the porch so among other things the guy tries to drown him out, catch him in a trap, fumigate him with his car fumes for 6 hours. Unsuccessful he eventually waits over ground and shoots the poor groundhog!
We are leaving Canada tomorrow and will definetly miss Canada's Tim Hortons. Tim Hortons is a coffee shop chain, which initially was established by a guy to raise funds for poor neighbourhood hockey teams and facilities. However, his venture really took off and is now right across Canada. It has recently been bought by the US chain Wendy's... watch out Starbucks!
