Early departure for Dallas where we extend usage of our car and stop off down town Dallas at the site where JFK was assinated. We saw the memorials, the scene of his shooting and the building from which he was shot. On return to the parking lot we discover a parking fine... thankfully more lenient than Ireland, cost of $2!

After paying our fee we head further North to South Fork Ranch... the mansion in which all exterior shots were filmed for the TV soap Dallas. We saw the gun that shot JR and even discovered who shot JR.......Miss Kirsten Shepard.

On an aside, we learn how Texas had been goverened by many different countries prior to its struggle for independence. Firstly, it was controlled by Spain. Then France, in 1685, attempted to take control and thought that they had succeeded for about 5 yrs, when Spain stepped back in and made it theirs again. Mexico then gained its independence from Spain, resulting in Mexian control of the Lonestar State. In 1836, Texas became a republic folowing the rebellion and it held this status for for 9 years (the only State to have once been its own country). Then Texas became the 28th State, when it joined the US in 1845. Civil War in the US 1861-65 resulted in Texas seceding into a Confederacy before being rea-dmitted to the US in 1970, where it has remained ever since.

We find a really nice hotel for $35 (Econolodge) and contact Patti about our visit to Oklahoma.

We enjoy a great meal in Owens Family restaurant, and even get doggy bags for extras!
