It's a late rise today due to last nites uncomfortable sleep .... thunderstorms during the nite, which actually caused one historical building in Downtown Austin to catch fire.

Our first stop is Zilker Park, where we visit the Botanical and Oriental gardens, before stopping for photos at Butlers Window (A window built by an Irish immigrant). We enjoy a relaxing picnic in the park before heading West to the picturesque town of Fredricksburg. This town has strong German ties.

About 20 miles North we visit another state park which is home to the "Enchanted rock", principally pink in colour, due to the lava under the earth. We enjoy a leisurely stroll spotting squirrels and unusual birds before taking to the car again for a scenic drive known as Willow City loop before getting back to Fredricksburg for a v tasty meal in Hondo's. On the loop drive we spot many deer. The roads are quiet twisty and are susceptible to floods (see photo of water guage on side of roads)!

San Antonio is 40miles south, on arrival we have considerable difficulty finding reasonably priced accomadation. Eventually settle in a Super 8 Motel
