We arrived in Rio on Mon morning at about 9 local time
and were swamped by taxis trying to get us to take
their taxi. We took the bus! The flight really was
fine, I slept most of the nite and watched Miss
Congeniality twice. It was nearly twelve by the time
we got into the city centre and found a small room in
a hostel, about ten mins from the beach. The room is
small enough with 2 sets of bunk beds, but the good
news is we´ve got it to ourselves - so far. (Hostel
is called Harmonia, R Barao de Torre phone 21.25.23.49.04
or hostelharmonia@hotmail.com) Copacobana Beach, Rio
Copacobana Beach, Rio
. It costs US$19.
We spent yesterday aclimatising to the humidity (its
about 30degrees celcius and humidity levels are high),
not too many places have air
conditioning. We went down to Copacobana beach today.
To say I´m the whitest person in Brazil! All the tan
I´ve ever worn would not make me blend in! We got a
really lovely meal at just €5 each today. Found it
quiet strange at first when everything was mad dear
$90 for the room, but soon realised its Brazilian
Reais! Which is about €14 ea.

Also no english
anywhere and our pigeon portugeese phrase book is
about as useful as Anne Franks Diary. Ipanema beach
is really fabulous, waves are huge and beach really
clean, just like the postcards, mind you they (the postcards)
do ignore the high fences guarding all the high rise
apartments overlooking the beach.

Copacabana
Hi, I live in Rio. I am glad to know you enjoyed your stay here. Just a minor correction: the correct spelling is CopacAbana, not CopacObana.
That´s all. Have a nice trip aroud...

Bernardo
